US (CA): Third edition of the Grow-Off competition

The Grow-Off will be returning to Northern California for its third year expecting participants from Humboldt County, Nevada County, The Bay Area, Monterey, Sonoma, Mendicino County and more.

"The Grow-Off is the world’s first science-based cultivation competition created to determine who truly grows the best cannabis, independent of human preference," the organizers say. "Using genetically identical plants, farmers are judged based on quantitative lab results instead of subjective smoke-outs. Data is collected during the grow process to discover what variables cannabis responds to both negatively and positively. Winners are determined by results in three categories: most terpenes, highest cannabinoids, and greatest yield."

Kicking off the NorCal contest, The Grow-Off will be hosting a “clone adoption ceremony” on June 5th in McKinleyville, Humboldt County. Participating teams will receive 2 identical clones of a mystery strain of genetics. After clones are received, it is up to the discretion of the cultivator to take his or her best practices and put them into action.

Past winners have included cultivation centers, dispensaries, edibles companies, and even unknown mom-and-pop home grows. "The only requirement to win The Grow-Off is the desire and ability to produce superior quality cannabis!" they point out.
