US (MA): Family-run company becomes first MMJ licensed 'microbusiness'

A family-owned marijuana growing business in Uxbridge is on track to become the first microbusiness to open in Massachusetts.

Gibby’s Gardens received its final license from the Cannabis Control Commission in a unanimous vote Thursday. It is the first microbusiness — a designation given to small businesses run by Massachusetts residents — to be given a final license.

Owner Kimberly Gibson said the family is tired, very excited and “ready to get growing.” “We’re ecstatic,” said her husband and the company’s manager, Fred Gibson. “It’s been a heck of a run.”

The Gibsons said they are ready to start planting within days, as soon as they get their final inspection and approval from state regulators. Gibby’s Gardens is run by Kimberly and Fred Gibson, with their son Joseph as the head cultivator.
