US (AR): MMJ sales reach a high of $6M

The Natural State's medical marijuana sales have skyrocketed to $6 million since dispensaries began opening up in May.

Eight dispensaries are scattered throughout Arkansas, two of which opened up in Bentonville early August.

Initially, the question was if the quantity of marijuana sales would amount to 1,000 pounds by the end of 2019.

That question has shifted to a new number.

"I think the better question now is, will we hit 2,000 pounds by the end of the year so to say that sales have sustained and been strong would be a bit of an understatement," said Scott Hardin, spokesperson with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.

Two dispensaries in Hot Springs have collectively sold almost 500 pounds of medical cannabis since opening in May.

Northwest Arkansas' medical marijuana's two current dispensaries are also making strides in the short time they've been established.
