In 2016, Blessed Coast Farms received the first cannabis cultivation permit in the state of California. This was an incredible life change for second generation legacy cannabis farmer, Siobhan Danger Darwish. This major life change for Darwish was the catalyst that moved her to create Grow Sisters, the multimedia educational platform. On a shoestring budget, Darwish and her sister Sloan Reed started filming cannabis cultivation educational videos from their family farm. After posting the videos to social media, the sisters gained attention and the sisterhood began to explode into full bloom.
Grow Sisters, Know Your Farmer Series was accompanied by the massive swell that the cannabis industry is riding. With large corporations moving in, the commoditized cannabis dropped in quality drastically. The Know Your Farmer Series encourages conscious consumerism and explores cannabis cultivation on the ground level. Grow Sisters' previous seasons were dedicated to educating on how to grow your own medicinal cannabis. With this new season, the sisters' family farm, Blessed Coast Farms, has decided to furlough their license due to lack of confidence in the system. Darwish, on the ground level, began to witness small family craft cannabis farms struggling to survive while large companies began to dominate. The new season is fueled by passion, legacy and keeping cannabis in the hands of the people. Without these farmers, there will be no craft cannabis. Grow Sisters, Know Your Farmer video for Blessed Coast Farms created a following of viewers dedicated to the sisters' story. What the Grow Sisters initially created to market their family farm is now shared with many farmers who desperately need the exposure.
This series focuses on bringing other farmers the media exposure they deserve by featuring cultivators who are struggling to be seen in the media tsunami of the competitive cannabis industry.
For these reasons, Grow Sisters Season 3 launched the Know Your Farmer Series, inviting other farmers to be featured on the Grow Sisters' social media platforms.
Farmers will have the ability to share their unique story with the Grow Sisters' following. The Grow Sisters decided to take an opposing approach to the mass competition that farmers face from large corporations. Small farmers competing with large corporations is demolishing craft cannabis; alternatively the sisters have decided to share their platform with fellow farmers, offering content creation of farms and products on the Grow Sisters social media platforms.
The community that follows the Grow Sisters media has an appetite to support farmers. These viewers long to know more about farmers, product makers and dispensaries. Lagniappe Family farms, Yerba Buena Farms, The Humboldt Patient Resource Center (HPRC), Hemp Dreams, Kiskanu Farms and The Humboldt Seed Company Willoughby Farms are just a few companies working in alliance with the sisters on this project.
Grow Sisters, Know Your Farmer Series is the connecting link to all businesses in the cannabis and hemp industry. Each collaboration is contributing to continued cannabis cultivation education, encouraging conscious consumerism and emphasizing on compassion.
