CAN (ON): Lincolns based greenhouse violated interim control bylaw

As the town of Lincoln continues to figure out its future as a home to cannabis production, staff say a local greenhouse has violated its interim control bylaw.

The bylaw, passed in January, puts a temporary restriction on new cannabis production as staff look at its zoning and related bylaws. Staff and councillors have been receiving complaints from residents in the 23rd Street area of Vineland. It came to staff’s attention a few weeks ago.

“Immediately after this was brought to our attention we met with the greenhouse owner,” chief administrator Mike Kirkopoulos said. Staff told the owner about the bylaw and that growing was prohibited.

Kirkopoulos said the owners agreed to take out half the plants immediately and the second half in the coming weeks.

“This was not an option we were OK with,” he said.
