US (TX): Cannabis products quarantined from Houston grower pending investigation into alleged illegal chemical crop protection use

All products from a Houston cannabis grower are on hold as the state Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office and Department of Environmental Conservation investigate alleged use of pesticides in its cultivation process.

According to an AMCO advisory sent to cannabis retail stores on Nov. 1, which was provided to KTUU by another cannabis retailer who received the notice, all packages originating from Calm N Collective “… must be immediately removed from your shelves and placed into quarantine.”

AMCO and the DEC Pesticide Control Program say they’re investigating credible information that the cultivator, identified as Ron Bass, allegedly used pesticide agent Eagle 20 on cannabis grown in his facility. They say the pesticide is stable at room temperature, but can turn into hydrogen cyanide -- a toxic gas which AMCO says poses a threat to human health when combusted.

Bass claims that a “disgruntled employee” whom he was in the process of firing is responsible for the alleged illegal pesticide use.
