Massachusetts' Cannabis Control Commission issued an order Tuesday to quarantine most medical-cannabis vaping products just as the items were set to become exempt from Gov. Charlie Baker's four-month ban.
Suffolk Superior Court Judge Douglas Wilkins decided last week that medical cannabis products must be exempted from Republican Gov. Charlie Baker's ban because it is up to the Cannabis Control Commission to set policy. Under that decision, patients were expecting to be able to resume purchasing the products after noon Tuesday.
The CCC, however, issued the surprise quarantine order Tuesday and cited as reasoning the recent U.S. Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention finding "direct evidence of vitamin E acetate at the primary site of injury within the lungs."
