The former Saint-Albert elementary school in Salmon River in the Municipality of Clare has been purchased by a proponent that intends on establishing a commercial cannabis micro-cultivation operation.
The school was one of four that the Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial voted in 2017 to shut down in Digby County because of low enrolment and the condition of the buildings.
The Municipality of Clare issued a request for proposals for Saint-Albert School in December 2018. Two bids were received. The first proposed a commercial cannabis micro-cultivation operation. The second proposed transforming the building into a seniors' housing complex. On Aug. 7, the second proponent withdrew their proposal.
