CAN (BC): Graneville based greenhouse targets cannabis market

A rural Granville commercial greenhouse described as “the largest indoor hemp-producing facility in the world” is positioning itself to enter the emerging recreational marijuana market after adult use becomes legal in Illinois Jan. 1, the Putnam County Board was told this week.

And county officials foresee “a great partnership” with the company, the board chairman indicated.

Representatives of Mid-American Growers briefed the board Monday on the latest developments and future plans at the greenhouse, which has been in business since the 1970s but has gone through transitions in ownership and operations in recent months.

After some 40 years of growing flowering plants to supply retail chains and known most recently as Color Point, the 3.6 million-square-foot facility was converted last June into production of hemp for extraction and processing into various CBD (cannabinoid) products. The formerly family-owned business was also purchased by Michigan-based MichiCann Medical Inc., which operates as Red, White & Bloom.

“We sort of overnight became the largest indoor hemp-producing facility in the world,” Mid-American sales and community relations director Garet Dinges told the board.
