USMCA/CUSMA ratified

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue issued the following statement after the Canadian Parliament approved the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA): “USMCA is a great victory for America’s agriculture industry, and I am pleased to see Canada’s Parliament approved the deal today. USMCA locks in and expands access to our neighbors to the North and South. I thank President Trump for negotiating this deal and for always supporting America’s farmers and ranchers. We will continue to work with both Canada and Mexico in implementing this agreement.”

Michelle Mungall, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness, has issued the following statement in response to Canada’s ratification of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA): “I am pleased to see that Canada has ratified the CUSMA, so B.C. and the rest of our country will maintain reliable rules for conducting trade and retain preferential market access with improved labour and environment provisions.

“At a time when British Columbians are concerned about the spread of COVID-19 and the resulting economic impacts, the ratification of CUSMA is important for our key trading relationships.

“With this agreement, B.C.’s supply chains remain intact and the independent dispute resolution system is preserved.

“We are grateful to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and her team for their dedicated efforts to negotiate a fair deal for Canadians.”
