Missouri now has an operating commercial cannabis-growing facility.
A St. Louis-area company, BeLeaf Medical LLC, said in an interview Monday that the company's first cultivation center opened Thursday. (Other Missouri news outlets reported that it opened Monday).
Kevin Riggs, BeLeaf president, also said he expects at least one retail dispensary to be open for sales to state-approved medical cannabis patients in the coming months.
"We’re hopeful that (at the) end of the third quarter, early fourth quarter, we’ll be able to supply dispensaries with product for general consumption," Riggs told the News-Leader.
Most experts say the cannabis plant's complex life cycle requires four to eight months to grow cannabis that can be harvested for use by humans.
