US (MA): Mayflower Medicinals cultivation workers in Holliston to unionize

Workers at the Mayflower Medicinals cannabis cultivation facility in Holliston voted to join the United Food & Commercial Workers Union on Wednesday, making them among the first cannabis workers to unionize in the state, according to a Wednesday press release.

The vote to join Local 1445 UFCW comes just months after iAnthus Capital Holdings, Inc., which owns the Mayflower brand, was accused of interfering and retaliating against employee efforts to unionize, according to a February report from The Boston Globe.

iAnthus did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the Wednesday vote.

“The entire process has tested everyone’s resolve, but we came through in the end and are ecstatic with the result,” Mayflower employee Dave Schermerhorn said in a statement.
