“In 2011 we started with glass for greenhouses,” says Marcel Kahi, Sales Manager with Yuhua Glass. The company has over thirty years of experience in the glass business. At the moment, they sell more than 250 hectares of diffusing glass every year. They are also involved in solar glass, which is mostly used as cover for solar panels.
The diffusing glass is sold to growers in China, Europe, North America, Australia, and more recently also the Mid-East and Mid-Asia. Especially China is a booming market in the last couple of years. “The glass can be used on all kinds of crops, especially for high-growing crops it’s very useful, but it is also used in flowers, strawberries and cannabis.
Diffuse glass
The diffuse glass that Yuhua sells is made while it’s hot. When it comes out of the furnace in molten state, it goes under a roller that ‘prints’ a pattern on the surface of the glass. Then it hardens and when sunlight penetrates the glass, it gets scattered into all different directions.
The bigger and deeper the patterns on the glass, the bigger the angles get under which the light is scattered. The company offers seven different types of diffusing glass to balance the sunlight in your greenhouse.

They cover a wide range of hazes from ultra low haze D5, low haze D10, D20, D30, Mid haze D50 and high haze D70, D75 and they also have a version with anti reflection on two sides, for each type of diffused glass. "This could lift the light transmittance to 97.5% and above."
No more shadow
Normally, incoming sunlight hits the tops of the plants, especially with high-growing crops like cucumbers, tomatoes or bell peppers. That means that the top gets more light then it needs, while the lower parts get nothing. With the diffuse glass, it gets scattered so that the bottom side of the plants get sunlight as well. “There is no shadow anymore from the top leaves,” explains Marcel.
