US (MI): Evart-based cultivation facility gets the go-ahead for expansion

The Evart Zoning Board of Appeals approved a setback variance request for Evart Properties, LLC, at its recent meeting.

Mark Wilson, the city's assistant manager, presented the request to the zoning board, saying the request was for a variance of the normal backyard setback in the industrial zoned district within the Evart Industrial Park.

Evart Industrial Properties, LLC., part of Lume Cannabis Company, is requesting a reduction of the normal 35-foot setback to 12.7 feet in order to accommodate the expansion of the cannabis grow facility located in the Evart Industrial Park.

“The reason for the variance request is that the odd dimensions of the property will not allow for the planned expansion without a setback variance,” Wilson said.

Evart Industrial Properties originally approached city officials asking them to annex property they owned, which lies within the Evart Township jurisdiction, for the expansion of the facility.
