The Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission granted a 60-day continuance Wednesday to a recreational cannabis company seeking zoning relief for a grow cultivation center and transporter facility.
Emerald Valley Industries, LLC. wants to build a 30,000-square-foot adult-use craft grower facility along with a 6,000-square foot transporter facility. It would be constructed at 5761 International Parkway, an industrial area along Wabash Avenue just south of Interstate 72.
Like all cultivation centers proposed within city limits, the group needs zoning approval from the Springfield City Council.
The Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission staff has recommended that zoning commissioners approve the request for the cultivation area but deny the transporter facility. They argue the latter cannot meet buffers that would prevent it from having an adverse impact on surrounding businesses.
Additionally, city code prevents a transporter facility within 2,500 feet of another adult-use cannabis establishment.
