US (IL): Female-run cannabis grower passes first step to open in Rolling Meadows

A new cannabis grower, processor and infuser operation is expected to move into a site currently used as an auto storage yard at 3650 Berdnick St., Rolling Meadows.

Aldermen approved the first reading of several actions Oct. 27 needed for developers of Cultivate Change LLC to establish the new business: a dissolution of all previous planned unit development approvals for the property, a preliminary plat of subdivision, a special use permit, preliminary and final planned unit development, and an amendment increasing the number of adult use cannabis establishments in the city from one to two.

Nature’s Care Co., 975 Rohlwing Rd., initially opened as a medical cannabis dispensary in 2016 and began selling recreational adult-use cannabis products this year in Rolling Meadows. It is a five-minute walk from the proposed grower. In July, Rolling Meadows City Council members approved the first reading of an ordinance that regulates growers and infusers in the city.

According to a city staff memorandum, developers from Cultivate Change LLC plan to build an up-to 45,000 sq. ft. facility at the 3.84-acre site. Currently, Hillside Towing uses the land as storage and previously it was home to a concrete plant. “The applicant’s plans will go a long way to improving an otherwise underutilized and unsightly property in the community,” said the staff memo.
