Valoya and Hohenheim University partner up to study light spectrum and technology effect on yields quality and quantity

A three year long research partnership on Cannabis sativa has been kicked off with the first experiment, running since October last year. "The goal of the research partnership is to advance our understanding of the light spectrum and lighting technology effects on flower yields and quality of multiple strains of cannabis," the Valoya team explains. "These results will also help develop even more efficient lighting protocols for professional cannabis cultivators.

Both, greenhouse and growth chamber conditions will be used in the experiments, while flower yields, cannabinoid compositions and terpene profiles will be analyzed. Additionally, the effect of light uniformity on flower yield and quality will be tested.

A total of six experiments have been planned over the three year period. The research project is primarily funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The findings will be published in peer reviewed journals, contributing to the limited amount of thus far available scientific data on the cannabis plant. This research project will be led by Prof. Dr. Simone Graeff-Hönninger and Mr. Philipp Reichel, PhD student.
