US (MA): Grower buys closed Hampden Papers property in Holyoke

Cannabis grower Green Thumb Industries — the second-largest cannabis company in the world with $557 million in annual revenue revenue — bought the closed Hampden Papers complex at 100 Water St. last month for $4.55 million.

Chicago-based Green Thumb, known also as GTI, got a special use permit in August from the Holyoke City Council to expand its growing operation into the 326,664-square -foot mill complex on 5.6 acres bordering on the Paper City’s historic canals, according to documents on file with the Hampden County Registry of Deeds.
Colebrook Realty Services, which represented the seller, Hampden Glazed Paper + Card Co., announced the sale this week.

Hampden Papers closed a year ago in September 2020 after 140 years in business. The company made specialized in coated, laminated, printed and embossed paper products.
