US (CT): Department of Consumer Protection to establish cannabis tracking system

State officials are finalizing a deal with a vendor for the forthcoming Cannabis Analytic Tracking System, which will track all legal adult-use cannabis in the state from seed to sale.

Department of Consumer Protection Communications Director Kaitlyn Krasselt would not name the vendor that will provide the web-based tracking platform, but said DCP is finalizing the deal. "It's pretty much good to go, we're just in the final stages," Krasselt said.

Once Connecticut's adult-use market is up and running - likely by the end of next year - every adult-use pot business that handles the plant in flower, edibles, and other forms will have an account for the platform.

The system will create a barcode-like identifier for each cannabis product on the market, and producers, delivery companies, and retailers will have to enter into the system every time the product is transported, and eventually sold, creating a documented chain of custody.
