An Illinois-based medical cannabis company is one step closer to planting its first crop in Lakeland.
Revolution Global received approval from the city's Planning and Zoning Board for minor modifications to the area's planned unit development to allow for the indoor cultivation of medical cannabis.
The company is hoping to plant its crop inside a 109,000-square-foot warehouse being constructed at 4720 Gateland Drive inside the Ruthen I-4 industrial park in Southwest Lakeland. It will be Revolution Global's first site in Florida, said John Faucher, its regional vice president of operation and head for Florida.
The state's cannabis market is valued at about $2 billion, according to Faucher, and growing with more than 17,000 medical users.
