The public will have an opportunity to weigh in on where the City of Niagara Falls allows indoor cannabis growing facilities.
At city council’s direction, the planning, building and development department has created draft official plan and zoning bylaw amendments to permit cannabis growing facilities in industrial zones. Outdoor facilities will not be allowed.
SGL Planning & Design consultants presented their recommendations for amendments to official plan policies and zoning bylaw regulations to municipal council, Jan. 18. These amendments included a 150-metre separation distance from sensitive land uses, such as dwellings and schools. Council supported the recommendations with an amended 500-metre separation distance.
“You’ll see, when we do our presentation on the open house, it really does limit it on where it can go,” said Kira Dolch, director of planning, building and development for the city.
