Picture time: Technical suppliers find their way to GreenTech Americas

Last week, the GreenTech Americas took place in Santiago de Querétaro. The show showed remarkable growth and welcomed over 150 technical suppliers, plus of course visitors from Mexico and North America. Despite the challenges in the Mexican market, growers are looking to adopt new techniques to gain better control over their crops.

Rising costs
Last week, we published several articles on the horticulture market in Mexico, which is dealing with new challenges, with rising costs seemingly being of the greatest importance. "I'd say that the biggest challenge is to understand how new technologies can actually be more beneficial than what growers are currently using now", summarised Jorge Luis Gonzalez Hernandez with Ludvig Svensson.

For instance, he sees that a lot of growers are finally jumping into insect and climate screens. "And they loved them for what they are doing for their crops in terms of climate and IPM strategies."

Also remarkable is how the LED and lighting suppliers found their way to the show. They were present to meet customers from the North American market, but also to see opportunities in Mexico to improve crop control and output levels.

More control
The Fibredust team too was present at the show. They showcased their True Blue blueberry grow bag at the 300+ acre FD Berries in Guzman. "As growers like to better control their crops and their output, there's a growing demand for coco products", they say.

Drive and business opportunities
Eric Douw from KUBO had a good show. "
The past few days have significantly increased our network in this region of the globe. I have been positively surprised by the drive and business opportunities of visitors", he says.

He also says that it was nice to finally speak with people in person - not only with new potential contacts, but also with old partners such as Stephanie T. Mok, from their partner BrightFarms. "It was great to see each other again, and that we share our vision for future opportunities for lettuce production in the US. It is inspiring to hear the long-term view Bright Farms has for lettuce production throughout this country."
