US (NJ): Veteran-owned cannabis business coming to Neptune

A new veteran-owned cannabis business hopes to help former service members struggling with PTSD while also ending the stigma around cannabis use. Victory Natural Farms LLC, headed by retired Army Capt. Evan Cleaver received approval for a recreational cannabis license in Neptune Township on May 22.

Cleaver, a Pennsylvania native who took part in the ROTC program at West Chester University before graduating in 2008, served in the army for five years, including a year spent in Afghanistan.

"We are hoping to hire veterans, especially local veterans. It is something I am really passionate about. I remember how it was getting out, trying to figure out something else to do," Cleaver said about his Neptune business plans.

Cleaver and his wife live in Bloomfield but plan to move to Monmouth County soon. "I am really excited about hiring local veterans (and) giving them something new to be excited about, something to be passionate about," Cleaver said. "That is exactly what happened to me when I got out. I didn't do anything with plants before that."
