Justin Matherly on King City Gardens’ new facility:

US (OH): “There is a lot of demand for consistent high quality”

A new craft medical cannabis facility has started its operations in Ohio. “We have 7 double stack flower rooms and 1 single stack flower room. We are currently at 25,000 square feet of grow canopy for the first phase and will be expanding to a total of 75,000 square feet after phases two and three,” says Justin Matherly, Director of Operations at King City Gardens. The cannabis facility officially opened its doors last month. So far, things have been going very well, according to Justin. “Our plants look phenomenal. We have 3 rooms currently flowering and will be filling another one soon. Our team is passionate about what they do and has gone above and beyond to materialize our vision. We focus on craft cannabis to bring patients the best possible medicine that will satisfy a variety of needs.”

The facility
Justin explains that the facility includes state-of-the-art technology to ensure high-quality cultivation. “We had Demeter Designs build out our fertigation room and irrigation system. The owner, Sean, has designed fertigation and irrigation for Jungle Boys and many other top-tier cultivators in the country. We also went with Growlink for our environmental controls. Their technology allows me to be anywhere in the country and still be able to control and monitor what’s going on in our grow rooms. All of our grow rooms, dry rooms, cure rooms, trim rooms, and product vault are decked out with Anden dehumidifiers and steam humidifiers to keep our humidity levels perfect through every stage until our product reaches patients. Precise control of humidity levels throughout the entire cycle means patients will get pristine medicine with terpenes that punch you in the face when they open their jars,” Justin says.

Genetics
The company will have their first harvest on November 18 and is hoping to have their products on the market around December 22. “We are bringing in exotic strains and flavors with high terpenes, high THC, and crazy bag appeal,” Justin says. “We are starting with around 42 strains. We also bought around 82 different strains from the best breeders in the world. To list a few - Seed Junky, Exotic Genetix, Symbiotic, Capulator, Jungle Boys, Relentless, B leaf, and many more. We also put a breeding program in our application and will be making our own genetic lines.”

Ohio
According to Justin, there is a lot of demand for medical cannabis in Ohio. “Especially with only 34 cultivators in the state. There is a high demand for products that deliver consistently high quality, high terpenes, and high THC.” King City Gardens’ team is comprised of people with experience in the Ohio industry. “It’s a huge advantage to have members of the team with state-specific experience. Each state’s regulations differ, especially when you consider states with recreational legislation. Our team is very aware of and focused on the needs and wants of our patients, communities, and state regulators.”
