US (NY): Neighbor's fume over farm

A loophole in the Town of Moreau's zoning code has allowed a cannabis farm to continually operate while attempts to stymie the operation have gone up in smoke.

At issue is a 76-acre piece of property near Exit 17 of the Interstate-87 Adirondack Northway along Spier Falls Road. The property was purchased by Shangri-la Real Estate Holdings, LLC., located in Saratoga Springs. The company is owned by father and son, Orson and Devin Klender. The company is in no way affiliated with the Missouri based "Shangri-La Dispensaries" cannabis network, which maintains cannabis cultivation, manufacturing, and retail facilities across the country.

"We recognize the enormous opportunity presented by New York State and their focus on social and economic equity within the Adult-Use Recreational Cannabis roll-out," Devin Klender said. "We intend to provide a framework for small independent operators to have the greatest chance of success while participating in this evolving market."

They already have two tenants leasing land and growing cannabis. Devin Klender said both have gone through the rigorous New York State cannabis cultivation licensing process, but he declined to give any further details.
