Nevada County has been awarded $500,000 from the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) to support cannabis businesses in the legal market.
This is the second round of funding that Nevada County has received from GO-Biz. In 2023, the County received $756,000. The County used the funding to allocate $650,000 in Good to Grow grants to 106 applicants.
The Community Development Agency plans to allocate another round of grant funding to local cannabis businesses soon, with an application period expected to open within the next couple of months.
"This will be a good opportunity for local cannabis businesses that want to expand," said Cannabis Code Compliance Director Matt Kelley. "If, for example they want to change from hoop houses to green houses or expand their farms, this funding could help them do that."
The money can be used to reduce application and associated costs, to hire licensed professional consultants, required environmental review and to enact best management and sustainable practices.
Diana Gamzon, co-founder and executive director of the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance will participate in education and outreach to potential applicants.
