US (PA): Yet another legalization bill introduced into State Senate

A Pennsylvania Senator announced plans to once again introduce legislation that aims to legalize adult-use cannabis across the Commonwealth.

Recently, a Pennsylvania Senate committee failed a bill that looked to legalize adult-use cannabis across the Commonwealth on May 13. The legislation was originally approved by the House Health Committee on Monday, May 5, and passed through the House. Ultimately, the bill failed after being moved to the Senate Law and Justice Committee.

Now, Senator Marty Flynn (D-Lackawanna, Luzerne) is once again looking to legalize marijuana for adults 21 and older in Pennsylvania. Flynn argued that his bill represents a commonsense opportunity to modernize cannabis laws by "delivering lasting economic benefits to communities across the Commonwealth while balancing individual liberty with public safety."

"Adults should be free to make their own decisions about cannabis use, just as they do with alcohol and tobacco, without unnecessary government interference," Flynn wrote. "A regulated market also helps eliminate the black market and improves consumer safety. In fact, cannabis is a botanical cousin of hops, a primary ingredient in beer."
