The Division of Cannabis Control has issued new guidance regarding purchase limits for non-medical cannabis sales in Ohio. These changes, which take effect June 4, will apply to all licensed dispensaries statewide.
Since the start of adult-use cannabis sales in August 2024, Ohio's cannabis market has shown the capacity to support both medical and recreational consumers. The DCC emphasized that while dispensaries are permitted to dispense the maximum allowable amounts under state law, they are not required to do so.
New limits have been established for recreational cannabis consumers. Individuals are now permitted to possess up to 2.5 ounces of dried cannabis plant material per day, intended only for vaporization. Additionally, consumers can intake up to 15,000 mg of total THC per day from non-plant cannabis products such as edibles, tinctures, and vapes. For example, if a consumer purchases a 500 mg vape cartridge and a 100 mg gummy pack, they would only utilize 600 mg of the allowable 15,000 mg daily limit for non-plant products.
Medical marijuana patients, however, are not impacted by these changes and will continue to follow the existing 90-day supply structure per Ohio Administrative Code 3796:7-2-04 and 3796:8-2-04. Dispensaries must prioritize supply for medical patients and continue to report those sales to the OARRS prescription monitoring database.
