South Africa: Warning issued over "fake licenses" in cannabis industry

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has issued a warning to the public regarding the proliferation of fake licences in the cannabis industry.

With cannabis dispensaries rapidly increasing all over the country, SAHPRA is concerned about individuals and companies presenting falsified licences to gain public trust and conduct business.

SAHPRA stresses that the use of fake licences is not only unlawful but also poses serious risks to public health and safety. These licences may be displayed to authorise cannabis cultivation and export, but they do not authorise cannabis dispensaries.

SAHPRA CEO, Dr Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela, has strongly condemned these unethical practices, stating that the public must be protected from such deceptive behaviour. SAHPRA is working with law enforcement agencies to ensure that offenders are dealt with swiftly and decisively.
