A cannabis company approved for state conditional licenses is now seeking local approvals to open a 40-acre farm on Union Valley Road.
Dragonfly NJ Inc., linked to high-volume brand Dragonfly Cannabis of Michigan, local officials said, has an application pending before the township Planning Board seeking minor site plan approval for hoop houses, parking, screening and odor control and a bulk variance for an 8-foot security fence for a new cannabis farm.
The Township Council adopted resolutions in support of both cultivation and manufacturing operations by the company in April, with resolutions stating that the proposed use complies with local ordinances and the site in southern West Milford falls within a designated cannabis overlay zone created under 2021 laws. The company also received conditional approvals in April from the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission for licenses in cultivation and manufacturing. Those licenses are the step before full annual licensure and require both municipal zoning approval and commission authorization before operations can begin.
Councilman Michael Chazukow said the timeline for full approvals remains uncertain while Dragonfly works through state and local requirements. He noted that it could be some time before operations are up and running. The township zoning officer nonetheless issued a permit on April 11 confirming that the site complies with local zoning for cannabis-related uses, local records show.
