Training online with the optimal heating of a greenhouse or applying the basic principles of Next Generation Growing in a simulation? This is possible with Kassim, a simulation tool for climate control in greenhouse horticulture. Wageningen University & Research has been using simulation models for research for some time now and that knowledge about these climate control models is now accessible in Kassim.
Kassim, derived from kas simulatie (greenhouse simulation), is an online simulation tool for educational purposes in the field of climate control within greenhouses. The tool was built in view of recent developments concerning climate control strategy and greenhouse technology.
Kassim, for whom?
The Wiki helps with teaching or working with greenhouse simulation. This makes it relevant not only for students and teachers in MBO, HBO (secondary and higher vocational education) or WO (university education), but also for growers who want to enrich their knowledge in the field of climate control, energy and climate in greenhouse horticulture.
Starting to work
The Kassim tool is directed to recent developments concerning climate control strategy and greenhouse technology. For example, think about research for the innovation program Kas als Energiebron (Greenhouse as Energy Source), which aims to reduce the energy consumption of Dutch greenhouse horticulture. Developments with regard to the (semi) closed greenhouse, greenhouse roof material, screens and lighting are also included in the teaching material.
Four modules
The Wiki consists of four modules. The first part contains theory, based on the book "The basic principles of Next Generation Growing". The second module provides an overview of all functionalities that can be found within the Kassim simulation environment. This is followed by a section with assignments to get familiar with the simulation tool.
Users can exchange assignments and elaborations with each other at the Kassim forum. Finally, the Wiki contains a lot of literature with relevant publications that can be used as a reference work.
