"Growmaster helps growers to enter into the cannabis industry"

Mohsine Elkhanza's love for the cannabis plant: "It is just unique"

Mohsine Elkhanza is with Growmasters, a company providing growers with everything they need to make their business successful. “Growmasters organizes all the best Dutch technology and puts it into a powerhouse,” he says. “We can rely on a cluster of partner companies that provide any kind of equipment for cannabis growers. This way, we can advise them on the best company to resort to, and what kind of solutions they need to be successful.”

The Dutch expertise
According to Mohsine, Dutch companies are the best in designing automated systems. “The Netherlands has a very long tradition in cultivation in controlled environments,” he points out. “However, there are differences between, say, growing tomatoes and growing cannabis.”

Mohsine further explains that he saw a number of growers switching from tomatoes to cannabis, and they grew this as if it were a tomato plant. “That is simply wrong, as these are two different crops,” he points out. “For cannabis, you need extreme control over climate as humidity build-up, for instance, can cause many plant diseases, which can be particularly tricky to counter as chemical crop protection is not allowed. Other than that, I have also seen growers growing different strains within the same room – this is also wrong. These different cultivars are going to influence each other, thus making it impossible for them to develop at their full potential.”

Education is crucial
That is exactly why Growmasters will organize seminars and mastercourses in order to educate growers on best practices and on the most important things to take into consideration in such a sector. “We have cannabis advisors whose role is to educate growers on how to treat the plant. Then, they would bring these growers to the solutions providers that are most suitable for each operation,” he explains. “We teach them how to work with systems, how to regulate computers. For example, our clients will have access to all of our data, so that they can see with their own eyes what are the most crucial things when it comes to growing medicinal-grade cannabis.”

According to Mohsine, cannabis horticulture greatly differs from traditional food horticulture. “Cannabis plants are much more sensitive than a normal vegetable. For instance, water is extremely important. Smart growers do water filtration because they know the extent to which that affects cannabis plants. If one, say, would grow a specific cultivar in the Netherlands, and then would go to Spain to grow the same cultivar, the results will be different, even if they would be using the same processes. This is because of the water,” he explains. “We want to help growers to make the best cannabis based on scientific evidence and tests, so that they can be successful all the time.”

A love for the plant
Mohsine has always loved the cannabis plant. “I think it is a very unique plant, and I just find it incredibly interesting and fascinating.” Moshine has been working in the agricultural sector for more than 20 years, and he has been developing automated systems for personal use. “I found designing and developing those systems extremely stimulating. It was in those moments that I realized that I wanted to help people produce the best cannabis possible,” he says. “Thus, my mission became to advise people on how to set up a successful cannabis operation and to help the industry to advance.”
