Cleaning solutions for the cannabis industry

Compliancy is surely one of the most important aspects of the medical cannabis industry. Within this concept, it is implied that growers carry out their operations in such a way that the end product is not only healthy, but also clean and safe to consume. In order to do so, it is of utmost importance to take care of the materials utilized within cannabis grows in order to keep them clean, thus preventing the product from being contaminated, and subsequently, to be taken off the shelves.

Cleaning solutions for the cannabis industry
That is why Unifortes has developed cleaning solutions specifically for the medical cannabis industry. “Particularly with cannabis processing, the philosophy of cleaning needs to move towards that used for pharmaceuticals,” Roy Kranendonk, area sales manager at Unifortes, explains. “Trays, crates and trolleys are being reused and moved between different production areas. To prevent contamination, these products need to be clean.”

This can be challenging, as according to Roy the sticky residues that remain on the crates, for example, are sometimes difficult to remove. “In order to take care of these crates, you at least need high pressure, and high temperature,” he points out. “That’s why we have made provisions to take care of these crates without damaging them.”

Customization is key
On top of that, Roy emphasizes the importance of offering customized cleaning solutions. “There are so many factors of importance in offering the right cleaning solution, in fact, we have never sold two identical machines”. Roy explains that cleaning drying trays is different to cleaning crates, as the sticky residues are already dried when trays are put into the washing machine. “We have just shipped an order of these drying tray washing machines to a Canadian LP, which can clean up to 800 trays per hour,” he explains.

Addressing space optimization
Unifortes cleaning solutions also address the pressing issue of space optimization within cannabis grows, as they can be built to wash different products. “Large producers let these machines run throughout the day, as they have large quantities of product to wash,” Roy says. “So they need to wash these things on an hourly basis. At the same time, we can also build all-in-one machines, in order to optimize the space of a grow – indeed, these are mainly used by smaller growers.”

Roy concludes by saying that Unifortes solutions are built under GMP assumptions, and growers all around the world are benefitting from such solutions. “The largest companies in Canada are using our machines. But we have also received requests from other countries, such as Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Spain, and Macedonia.”
