JM: Jamaica partners up with Harvard Institute to help island cannabis compete worldwide

Jamaican minister Audley Shaw has announced the island’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce Agriculture and Fisheries will team with HIPI to focus on developing various initiatives intended to provide Jamaica with that competitive edge.

Shaw said that HIPI representatives would be visiting the country this week to participate in a tour of research and cultivation facilities involved with growing cannabis and other plants with medicinal properties.

“We will be partnering with HIPI, as the opportunity exists for clinical trials of cannabis products to be conducted, which will help in settling dosage issues, and of course, we will be involving our own universities in this initiative,” Shaw told The Jamaica Observer during the CanEx Business Conference and Expo at St. James’ Montego Bay Convention Centre last week.

The conference combines cannabis industry experts from countries such as Canada, Mexico and the U.S., as well as players from the European, South American, Caribbean and Australian markets.
