Apex Greenhouses recently took delivery of 2 new building platforms in Australia. These units were designed, built and supplied by the specialised aerial lift manufacturer Omega – based in the Netherlands.
The delivery went in two phases, first the Omega 408TS and secondly the Omega 830TS. Both models are typical greenhouse construction machines, whereas the 408TS is the compact versatile model, while the 830TS is the true greenhouse construction machine, featuring large working platform by means of hydraulic operated extension decks and an impressive lifting capacity reaching up to 3,000 kg. Both models are equipped with industrial diesel-powered Kubota engines – and - fulfilling the latest global emission standards.
A common difficulty faced on building sites in Australia is that the standard European machines do not conform to local standards. If machines do not comply it can result in project delays from site shutdowns by the local Worksafe Authorities and potentially heavy fines/penalties.
“It is costly and time consuming to modify machines locally to make them compliant so this time we went to Omega and asked them to produce our machines from the ground up to conform with AS/NZS 1418.10 – the standard for elevated work platforms”, says Folco Faber, general manager of Apex in Australia.
Omega built and designed the ordered units to meet and/or exceed the requirements of the Australian standard - AS/NZS 1418.10. Following, TUV - an independent well known international operating certification company - verified the design and in addition performed a series of stability and structural tests carried out by TUV. Their conclusive answer was their issued certification stating compliance with AS/NZS 1418.10.
“Delivery time is longer than we would have liked, but due to heavy demand and a busy greenhouse industry this is understandable”, says Folco. “The main thing is at the end of the day we have a product that is compliant to local standards and that is worth being patient for. We are sure we will get good use of these machines and build some nice projects with them over the next decade!”
