It's been nearly two years since Terradiol Ohio CEO John Vavalo stood outside a vacant Harmont Avenue NE building and discussed a planned cannabis cultivation facility.
Aside from a construction trailer in the parking lot, little has changed at 3800 Harmont Ave. NE. The building remains vacant with one side visibly open to the elements.
The state tried to revoke Terradiol's large-scale cultivation license because of a distance dispute, but the company successfully made its case this year. The cultivator now has until the end of 2020 to obtain a certificate of operation. "Everybody's kind of coming back to the table now to make sure that this one is successful," Vavalo said last week.
Vavalo said he's been focused on other projects while a team worked through issues with the state. "Basically, being in limbo for so long, a lot of people shifted gears and moved around," he said. Terradiol's multi-state cannabis business was based in New York when its Ohio offshoot entered the state Medical Marijuana Control Program. The New York operations were sold last year, and Vavalo said Terradiol now is only active in Ohio.
