CAN: Health Canada says it received no complaints for over 20 outdoor cannabis businesses

Despite the concerns of neighbours to a proposed pot farm in Merlin, Health Canada has not received any complaints about the more than 20 outdoor cannabis businesses licensed to harvest in 2019.

“In addition, industrial hemp, which is a type of cannabis with very low levels of the psychoactive compound THC, has been cultivated in Canada since 1998,” Health Canada spokesperson Anna Maddison said in an email. “In 2018, more than 30,000 hectares of hemp were approved for cultivation in Canada.”

Merlin resident Sandy Maynard, who lives in a house next to a property that 7 Farms Down wants to use for an outdoor grow operation, recently told Postmedia she tried bringing forward issues like security, property values, quality of life and odour to Health Canada but had not received a response.

Maddison said the federal government body does not discuss specific applications for a cannabis licence and “would not be able to provide that information to members of the public in response to inquiries or complaints” in the interests of “privacy and business confidentiality.”
