NL: Fire broke out at Emmeloord based MMJ facility

The fire brigade was called out on Wednesday evening for a small fire at a legal cannabis farm in Emmeloord. According to a Bedrocan spokesperson, the fire caused little damage

Medicinal cannabis is grown in the building. This is intended, among other things, for sale to pharmacies.

"The fire seems to have originated in the technical installation in one of the rooms where plants are located. The fire has remained in one place within this room and has not spread further through the building," says the spokesperson. The fire filled the entire building with smoke. The fire brigade extinguished the fire and extensively ventilated the building.

"The majority of the plants have not been in contact with fire or smoke. We work with different airtight spaces in which the climate is closely monitored. Only the plants in the area where the fire has raged have been damaged," said Bedrocan. In the coming days, it will be investigated whether the fire has other consequences.

From the government
Nothing is yet known about the cause of the fire and damage. The nursery in Emmeloord is not the main location of the company. Bedrocan is based in Veendam and has been the exclusive supplier of medicinal cannabis to the government's Medical Cannabis Agency for 20 years.
