The Rhode Island legislature has rewritten a medical cannabis bill that caused the governor to sue the body.
Gov. Gina Raimondo claimed that the law granting the legislature the right to veto regulations around new compassion centers, where medical cannabis is sold. Her lawsuit claimed of the lawmakers' bill, "They threaten to transform a logical and comprehensive marijuana regulatory system into an arbitrary and fragmented one – a regime that may be both difficult for agencies to enforce and for the public to challenge."
Legislators have rewritten the law and taken out their right to veto regulations.
House Speaker Nick Mattiello told NBC 10 News, "We wanted equity, fairness, and an equal opportunity for everybody."
