CannNext and James E. Wagner Cultivation partner up in European opportunities

CannNext, located in the Netherlands, and James E. Wagner Cultivation (JWC), located in Canada, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, through which CannNext will support JWC in the marketing in Europe of their patented GrowthSTORM system, and JWC will assist CannNext with its tender to the Dutch Government for a license to produce medical cannabis in the Netherlands.

High-quality standards
Eric Uleman, CannNext managing director, visited JWC’s state-of-the-art indoor facility, and was impressed by the level of professionality. “Their cultivation facility is truly best-in-class,” he says. “It is fully equipped to produce medicinal cannabis under necessary high-quality standards. It looks like a hospital, is very high-tech in a clean environment where the cannabis plants basically grow on air, thanks to the GrowthSTORM system. But truly impressive is the fact that the company is capable to consistently produce high-quality cannabis: JWC is rapidly executing on a plan to produce 35,000 kg of cannabis per year in a fully indoor environment. This amount of cannabis is actually approximately 10 times the Dutch annual production.”

In support of CannNext’s tender, JWC has provided certain necessary commitments and attestations required by the Dutch Government. “If the tender will be successful for us, JWC will help us scale up if necessary,” Eric further explains. “Considering best-practice of their large indoor facility, they are the right partner for helping us scaling up. We believe it’s important that we not only demonstrate to the Government and stakeholders the capability to produce in the Netherlands, but also that we have experienced partners to ensure that scaling up will happen in a controlled fashion. The process of establishing a production facility in the Netherlands is rather complex and stakeholders look for experienced partners with a proven track record that to ensure business continuity and guaranteed deliveries from day 1 from the Netherlands.”

Best practices
Additionally, the Memorandum of Understanding outlines the parties’ intention to collaborate in developing cannabis cultivation best practices. This will comprise of R&D regarding strains, cultivation methods and lighting practices. “CannNext has always been focused on researching and developing the most advanced and efficient practices to grow safe and clean cannabis for patients,” Eric points out. “Combining the long-standing cultivation knowledge of JWC and our focus on light and grow strategies, will result in increasing our chances of becoming a winner in the Dutch tender. JWC delivers the best medical product for patients driven by personal passion and its advanced cultivation technology.” JWC will also acquire a minority equity position in CannNext.

JWC is part of the Canopy Rivers portfolio, which includes companies such as TerrAscend and Canapar. “JWC is part of an impressive portfolio of companies that strengthen each other guided by the vision of Canopy Rivers. This will hopefully also create more synergy opportunities for us.”

“Our proprietary GrowthSTORM technology is the foundation for our success here in Canada,” says Nathan Woodworth, CEO and President of JWC. "We believe by sharing our technology and knowledge with CannNext, we will establish an important gateway to the European Union Market. The Netherlands has a reputation for being a frontrunner in medical cannabis and represents one of the largest recreational markets in the world.”
