Digitalization in installation techniques

Times of crisis demand creative solutions, of which digitalization seems to be the most prominent. However, digitalization was already part of recent developments in the horticultural industry long before the corona crisis. Thanks to technology, a lot of the work can be done remotely. Cultivation advisors can watch along through digital means, and for the past couple of years, installers are taking more and more steps towards digitalization

Koen Brabander of PB tec says they are currently testing instructing mechanics from a distance. “We have enough work. However, the problem is that we are not able to send our team to a project as we would normally do. This is why we are running tests with virtual reality helmets.”

He points towards the Microsoft HoloLens. “We install one of these on the mechanic's helmet, allowing us to watch along and guide them from a remote location.”

Koen has high hopes for the tests. “Digitalization is simply the future, even for installation techniques.”
