Precision growing app helps growers cope with COVID-19

In late 2019, PickApp, a precision farming ERP system that operates on smartphones, began developing a basic version of the app as part of their remote installation initiative. The goal was to be able to implement the system from long distance giving farmers the independence to install, implement and upgrade at will. Once it became apparent that the coronavirus was changing the way we operate, the team decided to go a step further and offer the basic version they’d developed free of charge for three months and thus ensure farmers could manage their farmhands remotely, safely and at no extra cost.

Remote installation and free trials
PickApp collects data on farm tasks that can be summed up in four parameters: location, time, farmhand information and production.  Then the cloud-based system cross references these parameters in real-time to produce reports that vary from workflow charts to payroll to crop profitability and can be used for quality control and even incentive programs. PickApp basic omits the production parameter making installation and operation so easy, anyone can do it with little to no support.

The way it works
The PickApp operating system generates QR barcodes which farmers can print out on any computer and install on anything they wish to collect data on. In PickApp Basic this means plots and worker tags. Farm tasks are defined in the DIY managers portal and upload automatically to the app which is installed on each farmhand’s phone or on manager’s phones. When a farmhand enters a new plot, he or she scans the barcode at the entrance with their phone and is prompted to choose one of the predefined tasks from a dropdown menu. When they leave, they scan out and move on to the next task.

Cost-free
Since the Corona crisis began sanctions and regulations have hindered the workflow in farms around the world. Being farmers themselves the PickApp management team saw this as part of their duty to help their fellow farmers adhere and succeed even under the dire circumstances.

“Precision agriculture is about producing the most with what you have”, says Yoram Gommershtadt, Founder and CEO of PickApp, “Our goal is to help farmers do just that”. PickApp Basic is offered with free remote installation and a free 3 month trial period. No payment, no payment information and no commitment is required.
