US (MA): Grower to triple cannabis cultivation, adds 50 jobs

The Commonwealth Cannabis Company said Wednesday that it will be tripling its production of cannabis by expanding the second floor of its cultivation and production facility on Marc Road in Medway.

The company will roll out 50 new jobs, said owners Ellen, Marc and Jon Rosenfeld in a press release. CommCan has already starting hiring some of those workers, Marc Rosenfeld told the Daily News, and the business has continued hiring workers throughout the rest of the pandemic.

The footprint of the Medway facility is 30,000 square feet; the second floor has another 30,000 square feet, said John Boit, a CommCan spokesperson. Though the floor space has only doubled, CommCan is able to triple its canopy because of its tiered cultivation system in the new expanded area, he said.

The expansion will make CommCan the largest family-operated and locally owned cannabis company in New England, according to the Rosenfelds. Currently, CommCan produces about 60 pounds a week of usable material, including flower, shake for pre rolls or extractable material, said Boit.

With the expansion, production could increase to 180 pounds a week.
