Supporting growers during trying times

The global pandemic has not only impacted the economy, but it has also prevented many people from meeting and gathering with loved ones. On a business level, this resulted in the cancellation of many trade shows around the world: these are the perfect stages to connect and meet with existing and potential new customers and partners. Some companies have taken advantage of this new situation by checking in with old customers even more than usual. One of these companies is Microgrow. “While COVID-19 prevents Microgrow from meeting many new customers at Cultivate and other trade shows, it does not prevent us to support our old customers even more efficiently than before,” Daphne Brogdon, head of marketing with Microgrow, explains. “For safety, we are driving and wearing masks.”

Visiting customers
Recently, she visited Woods Transplants Services in Gustine. “Mark Woods has a great operation there of over 60 greenhouses,” she points out. “Our controls are installed in his current greenhouses, and more are about to be installed in 30 other greenhouses that he has coming online.”

Lady Bug Farms
After a visit at Woods Transplants, Daphne proceeded over the hill to Watsonville, to visit Lady Bug Farms. “A growing cannabis concern,” she says. “They are retrofitting older greenhouses used for flowers. Microgrow controls have been installed in one greenhouse so far, with several more soon to be operational.” Every large-scale cannabis grower is very much aware of the complexities of cannabis growing, and a number of growers sometimes do struggle when it comes to the most important things for large-scale growing. However, this is not the case for Lady Bug Farms. “We are very impressed with the electrical literacy of their head grower,” Daphne remarks. “While some want a plug and play solution, this head grower wanted something he could shape a bit himself. This was completely possible thanks to the flexibility of our products, which allows us to handle every paradigm.”

This short story has showed once more that there is an intrinsic value in getting on site to gain a better understanding of a customer’s particular needs, which conversely allows the building of a lasting relationship. “For those of us fortunate enough to still be working during COVID, the takeaway could be to not be downhearted,” she says. “If you can’t get new buyers in at the same clip, cultivate the ones you have.”
