"Medical cannabis cultivation requires products that offer an extra guarantee of quality, control at origin and detailed chemical analysis"

The exponential growth of the medical cannabis industry hinders in many countries the need to establish legal regulations and standards for the commercialization and consumption of derivative products. For this reason, throughout the production and supply chain, there are many strict controls and standards that the professional must comply with to guarantee safety for the consumer.

One of the most important phases is cultivation. Here, the selection of the substrate is essential to ensure the highest quality, both from a chemical and health point of view. The properties that the plant absorbs from the substrate will inevitably become parts of the product itself; therefore, it is necessary that this choice is subject to additional controls that guarantee the origin and composition of the substrate, in accordance with current regulations and to the own internal protocol of the producing company.

Quality and safe substrates
Carrying out exhaustive analyzes of the properties and characteristics of the substrate and identifying the traceability of the product batch are essential requirements in the pharmaceutical sector of medicinal cannabis. With regards to this, producers look for suppliers that guarantee the quality and safety of their products in an effective way.

The Spanish company Projar, manufacturer and supplier of substrates and coconut fiber for the cultivation of medicinal cannabis, has just launched the innovative Projar Medical Trust Certification on the market.

“All our innovations are always born from the R&D that the professional producer and the market asks us,” Raúl Pérez, Key Account Manager of Projar's line of solutions for medical cannabis, explains. “For us, it is essential to be able to solve real needs of our clients in an active way. The Med Trust Certification is an absolute guarantee by Projar that our substrates and coconut fiber products for the cultivation of medicinal cannabis comply with the strict standards of this sector. This is how we show to our clients that we are working to respond to their needs.”

A certification of quality
This certification guarantees three aspects related to good practices, quality, and origin control of Projar’s products. “For all batches we guarantee: a Manual of good practices that guarantees that, throughout Projar's production process, we respect human rights and carry out practices that are respectful with the environment,” he remarks. “For example, in our factories in Sri Lanka and India we actively contribute to the sustainable development of small local economies and to the sustainability of production.”

“At the same time, we offer a Origin batch control, as we have specialized, technical personnel for this purpose. As manufacturers, we can be one of the few in the market that can offer a real-time data sheet of product batches to our clients.

And, finally, the Chemical Analysis of the origin raw material. This allows us to ensure that we only give the customer lots that are 100% tailored to their needs and avoid surprises in delivery.

Responsible manufacturer
Raul continues to explain that such a certification comes with no additional cost to customers. “We have thought about the Medical Trust Certification as we constantly listen to our clients. That is why we can offer this service without any cost. It is our responsibility as manufacturers to guarantee these basic values about our products.”

“For us, quality is not an added service, but is part of our business ecosystem in everything we do,” Raul points out. “We have indeed more certificates that give real value to the Medical Trust Certification, such as: the GMP, which certifies the good production practices of our products, the OMRI seal and the ECOCERT validation that certifies our range of products for organic production, in addition to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.”

Working with products with such demanding regulations in medical cannabis requires that the entire production process can be adapted to these needs. Initiatives such as Projar allow the medical cannabis sector to carry out its work every day with greater guarantees for its clients.
