US (CA): Moorpark extends ban on industrial hemp for another year

Moorpark's industrial hemp ban has been extended for another year.

Without comment in a brief public hearing last week, the Moorpark City Council adopted a new interim urgency ordinance continuing the city's moratorium on cultivating, manufacturing, testing, storing and some retail sales of industrial hemp.

The extended ban runs through Dec. 16, 2021.

The prohibition was initially enacted last December in response to complaints from dozens of residents of the southern part of the city about strong odors coming from permitted industrial hemp farms in the neighboring Tierra Rejada Valley in unincorporated Ventura County.

One of those residents, Mardi Douglas, urged the council at last week's virtual meeting to extend the ban, saying during public comments that "the amount of suffering that goes on with the hemp is incredible.
