US (CA): Fire extinguished at Oakland-based cannabis farm

A fire that damaged a cannabis-grow facility in a West Oakland neighborhood was under control, authorities said Friday.

At 2:57 a.m., firefighters responded to the 300 block of Adeline Street in the city’s Acorn Industrial neighborhood for a report of flames at a commercial structure, Oakland Fire Department spokesman Michael Hunt said.

Nearly thirty firefighters and a battalion chief aboard four engines and a truck arrived within minutes at a four-story warehouse with visible smoke coming from inside. After entering, firefighters were able to contain most of the fire to a central area and part of an attic and managed to control the fire by 3:37 a.m., Hunt said. There were no reported injuries.

The building contained nearly 50 rooms, most containing up to 500 plants in each one, and an overhead-sprinkler system managed to aid some firefighting efforts.
