The state company Cannava, a Jujuy-based producer of cannabis for medicinal purposes, and the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) signed an agreement to analyze standards cannabis for the preparation of medical derivatives.
The arrangement is a transfer agreement to obtain standards and reference materials for the development of the medical cannabis industry in the country, a project in which the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (Anmat) will also participate.
The authorities of both institutions indicated that the“Standards, which will be made from dried cannabis flowers produced in Jujuy, are highly required by scientific institutions and medical cannabis production projects around the world since they allow analytical certainty in the processes of making derivatives of medical-grade cannabis ”.
In this context, the head of INTI, Rubén Geneyro said that this agreement “is a very important step considering the bill, prepared by the Ministry of Productive Development, represents a strategic step to boost an industry with a great future both in the province as well as in the region and the country.”
Standards are used for three main purposes: to aid the development of appropriate laboratory analytical methods (reference methods); to calibrate measurement systems or to verify and adapt quality measurement programs.
Governor Gerardo Morales highlighted "the importance of being able to share reference material produced by our state company Cannava with INTI, in a commitment that is strategic for our development, such as medicinal cannabis."
Cannava indicated that this step forward between the INTI and the province of Jujuy is part of the Technical Assistance Agreement signed between the parties in 2019.
The intention is to jointly develop, plan and execute activities that promote the development of local suppliers, technical assistance for the implementation of the quality management system, technical assistance in the development of products, by-products, and specific industrial processes of the Cannava SE State Company and training technical staff of the same.
They also indicated that the state company has been implementing a comprehensive quality management system with the support of INTI, which gives "a differential to the provincial program for the production of medicinal cannabis derivatives, which is certifying ISO 9001 and 17.025 standards, in addition to strict compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards ”.
The president of INTI, Rubén Geneyro, and the Governor of the province of Jujuy Gerardo Morales participated in the signing of the agreement, accompanied by the president of Cannava, Gastón Morales, and the NOA Regional Deputy Manager, Ramiro Casoliba, among other authorities.
