The first adult-use cannabis producer in San Miguel County has been approved by the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department, according to county Planning and Zoning Supervisor Amanda Salas.
The producer, licensed as “Ziawanna, Inc.,” is located in San Jose, New Mexico, and is owned by John Sedillo and Stuart Penny.
There are still several other producers going through the process of becoming licensed in the county, though none of them have yet been approved at the state level.
“It is exciting for San Miguel County to have its first cannabis producer officially licensed at the state,” Salas said. “It has been my pleasure to work with these dedicated individuals. I will continue to work diligently with the others I have pending, as well as any new applicants to get them approved at the state level and with the county. I have also pledged to provide any additional support needed in the coming months to make them successful and economically sustainable in San Miguel County. As a born and raised Las Vegan, I have always known our community has potential for growth. Economic development has been a priority of mine for the past decade and I am honored to serve in a job that allows me to contribute to this great need.”
