Bas van der Elst, Hendic:

"Demand for silo covers has never been higher"

2021 is a year to remember. Bas van der Elst, Hendic: "It was a special year for us. We're growing at lightning speed. Hendic and De Lange Plastics form a happy combination. Together, we supplied growers with more than 5,000 liners and 3,500 steel silos last year."

There are two types of silo covers: foil or steel. Bas: "Of course, steel is a sustainable solution with a longer lifespan. But we also don't take any chances with a foil cover. We only produce a foil cover after thorough calculation. We take the geographical location into account in order to map out snow-rain and wind loads. The slope angle of the cover must be accurate. After a strength calculation, they go to work with the laser cutter to cut the pie slices and we weld them together to create a solid cover for the silo. The top edge of the silo is reinforced with an edge tube before the tensioning cap is mounted. This is to make the silo sturdier against the weather in combination with the cover."
